The Problem

Mentorship is a key contributor to success in any role. I was able to grow in my role at Zillow because I had several experienced, senior and amazing mentors guiding me as I went.

That sentiment shaped my idea for my submission to the AI challenge as part of FyxerFest 2025: Make mentorship easy to find for all.

The TPM Mentor app operated on the following information:

The users email address
Whether they were seeking a mentor, or a mentee
Their position on the TPM Triangle

The Approach

For reference, the TPM triangle is made of up 3 parts:

Product
Engineering

The triangle was overlaid with numeric coordinates that gave the user a set of values that would be compared against others position on the TPM triangle.

Once the user selected their path, and provided their TPM Triangle coordinate, they would then submit and be given a list of mentors or mentees they could connect with.

The user was then returned a list of mentors/mentees from two categories, Closest Matches, those with similar coordinates to their own, and Diverse Perspective matches, those with coordinates further from their own

This gave the user the option to work with someone with similar skill sets, or to challenge themselves to grow and worth with a mentor or mentee who could expand their horizons.

The matches were categorized, weighted and each mentor/mentee card included contact and profile information for that person, making it easy for the user to reach out to the mentor/mentee.

The Outcome

This project won the 2025 AI Challenge at the 2025 TPM FyxerFest NYC. There was a competitor app created, and the apps were put head to head and my app won the vote.

This app was in the process of being integrated into the TPM Community at Zillow for use by all TPMs so that they could find a mentor or mentee to help guide them through their work and experience at ZG.
